If you regularly have people over to dinner, then you’ll want to impress your guests with your stylish dining room. However, does your dining room leave something to be desired? The truth is, having a bit of a run-down dining room can put you off from inviting people around as it does not give the right impression. This is a real shame as everyone should be able to feel proud of their environment. So, to help you, below are a few ways you can make your dining room a little more stylish:
Are your dining chairs looking a little bit sorry for themselves? Well, if they are the wooden kind, why not buy some paint and give them the once over. A matt black colour is always a winner. This will immediately make them appear brighter and newer. Maybe you could cover existing cushions with new fabric too. This fabric could be mimicked on the tabletop, as matching table cloth and chairs give that more coherent and upmarket look. How about buying second-hand and doing things up if you’re happy to upgrade yourself? If reupholstery is not your thing, how about entirely new Dining sets? They will really elevate the look and feel of the dining room.
Think about where the light comes from. If you are having an evening meal in the summer, will the light be enough from the windows? If not, maybe you could place a mirror on the adjacent wall. Mirrors have the effect of making rooms appear larger too, so this is a double whammy, especially if your room is particularly small. How about the lighting for night. Perhaps you may want to reposition the table or light fitting so it hangs directly over the middle of the table, ensuring no one is in the shadows. Pendant lighting is especially good for dining tables. If this is difficult to achieve, how about a lamp or two in the corners of the room or some wall lighting?
Instead of painting or wallpaper, why not try some panelling. Adding cladding can instantly upgrade the look and feel of your dining room in one feel swoop. It will make the room appear as if it is in another place. You can even add this to one part of the room if you have the living and dining room in one. It will help with the division of purpose. What’s more, this is a relatively easy DIY job, so it will not cost the earth.
A Statement Rug
A statement rug can liven up and modernize any room, and they look great in a dining room. The best place to put this down is directly under the dining room table, so you will want to purchase one that is large enough to cover that much flooring. The good news is there are so many styles, shapes, textures, and designs to choose from, so you can go as wild or chic as you like, no matter what shape your dining room table. Also, they are easy to clean if there are any dinner mishaps.
There are so many things to do throughout a single day and cleaning up after everyone else feels like a career instead of a simple task most of the time.
Hoovering carpets, soaking out spills and stains and cleaning up after the pets is not the best part of a day and takes up a fair amount of your time. If you are wondering what can be done to relieve the effort and free up your time to dedicate elsewhere, the answer lies in luxury vinyl flooring and its 3 steps to choosing the right one.
First Step – Choice
It is not just wood effect vinyl you can turn to, as vinyl effortlessly replicates stone, slate or marble floors with its selection of vinyl planks and tiles.
Your first step is always choice, not just from the design but also colour, texture, and palette. You have to be happy with the design you choose as this flooring lasts an incredibly long time when cared for. You may choose an abstract design for a bit of originality or go towards a contemporary design to add some sophistication.
The good news is no matter what you choose, it all takes the same amount of care.
The second Step – How It is Installed
Installation is a straightforward exercise that can be done either by a professional or independently if you fancy a bit of work. It is certainly easy enough for you to save some pennies on the installation costs.
By choosing easy click together planks or slightly more challenging glue down tiles by way of adhesive, it can be a fun exercise for slow weekends. Once put together you can give it a quick mop and brush and your new floor will be doing its job and be able to step over by Monday.
The Third Step – Cleaning
Now, this is where the benefits of saving time present themselves.
In most cases, your old flooring would have scratches from pet claws and scuffs from moving furniture, which is why luxury vinyl flooring such as Luvanto luxury vinyl flooringhave protective properties in place that offer the highest safeguard against scratches, stains, moisture and heavy foot traffic.
When you have vinyl flooring in the home you find that a regular mop of any spillages and an occasional brush throughout the week keeps your floor in perfect condition. Before long you start to feel the time coming back to you in not being on your hands and knees scrubbing out stubborn stains and buffing out scratches, leaving you with time on your hands to enjoy what you want to.
That is the trick when it comes to luxury vinyl flooring – getting time back and cutting down the clean-up.
When it comes to decluttering, the methods of Marie Kondo are cast upon us. Whilst the world has spent the best part of a yearcooped inside, many people noticed things about their homes that have perhaps been overlooked for a long time- and probably thought about starting to declutter certain rooms. As idyllic as a clutter free, clean and airy home sounds, sometimes the process of decluttering is nothing but stressful and emotional- especially when you accidentally end up throwing sentimental items. Japanese author and tidying expert Marie Kondo recently enlightened our lives with the ‘KonMari’- an approach to tidying that replaces the madness with method by encouragingtidying by category rather than location and making final decisions on whether to discard an item based on the inner joy it brings you.
As effective as the KonMarie method is, it is also overwhelmingly time consuming- especially if you aren’t the type to easily part with belongings. However, the teachings of Marie Kondo, intertwined with some time saving tips we buy any home have generated, decluttering your home does not have to be stressful or excessively time consuming, and will leaveyour home feeling clean and your belongings decluttered.
Tip #1- Mindset:
Perhaps the most obvious yet overlooked, is our attitude towards decluttering. We tend to overcomplicate the art of decluttering or suddenly develop an irrational love for items that have been locked away for years- because we simply don’t want to partwith them. Before you even reach for the ‘dump’ box, think of decluttering like this: you are simply editing your home, and the reward is a home that will only contain things that make you happy.
Tip #2- No, You Won’t Need That ‘At a Later Date’:
Stop making excuses and get rid! Items that have no purpose but are kept on the premise that “it might be needed someday” do nothing but transform your home into a storage unit. A lot of things can be donated, recycled or regifted. The KonMarie method, and most other tidying- guru’s such as Mrs. Hinch argue that if an item hasn’t been used or thought of for 90 days- and won’t be used in the next 90 days, it’s probably best to give it up.
Tip #3- Don’t Focus on Finance:
There is a certain pain when throwing away items you havespent money on, so its unsurprising that we hang onto many things due to their price, rather than assessing their usefulness in the home or to us. Whilst some things are investments, others are simply nothing more than items that have served their purpose. Giving yourself a powerful conscious and permission to think about repurchasing more useful items down the line will enable you to declutter effectively and efficiently.
Tip #4- Out of Sight, Out of Mind:
Sometimes the after-effects of a decluttering session can leave us with regret. It’s not long before we’re rooting through boxes and bin-liners, taking things back out and claiming we forgot how useful they are. To avoid this slippery slope the answer is simple, get it out of the house pronto. Springing into action and taking the items to their destination will remove the temptation of reclaiming everything you were supposed to get rid of.
Tip #5- Does it Spark Joy?
The work of Marie Kondo is globally recognised because, well, it works. The shtick of asking yourself if each item sparks joy is a legitimate way of having a small reflective moment of why you even own or bought that item. Perhaps people don’t think of mundane objects as necessarily sparking joy, but if it works for you, it’s a galvanizing way to declutter and let go of some things.
Decluttering has many benefits. Not only is a clutter-free house aesthetically pleasing, but it makes maintaining a clean house easier. It’s also an effective way to practice self-care as it gives you control over your home, items and enables you to create a space in which time and energy results in clarity, happiness and a general lift in well-being.
Working from home is ten times easier when you have the right setup. This should include a nice desk and a comfortable chair from somewhere like officemonster.co.uk, plus an external keyboard and, of course, a screen. Having all of these things is important, but you also need to know where and how to place them. More accurately, how should you set up your home office?
Strangely, the whole office hinges on your placement of one item; the screen. This is the thing you’ll be staring at for hours a day, so you need to find the right place to put it. Let’s go through a few ideas and considerations to help you find the ideal spot…
Close to a wall
You want to put your screen on your desk and have it as close to the wall as possible. Ideally, the back of your computer screen will almost touch the wall itself. Why is this important? Well, it’s more of a safety thing. If there’s a wall behind your screen, it can’t topple backwards and smash on the floor. Some people will sit at a desk with no wall behind the screen, and you can easily stand up and knock the desk, sending the screen flying. Here, the worst-case scenario is that your screen knocks lightly against the wall, so no damage is done.
Near a window, but away from direct sunlight
Putting your screen near a window is a good idea as you will be close to natural light and fresh air. It can also stop you from feeling like you’re couped up in a prison. However, try to avoid putting the screen in the way of direct sunlight. Simply put, the glare from your screen will make it really hard to see anything if the sun is pointing right at it. Yes, you can use mirrored window films to counter this, but it can still be extremely annoying. Instead, it’s smarter to place your screen so there’s a window close by, but no sun shines directly on it.
At eye level
With the previous two points taken care of, you’ll have a setup that’s almost ready to use. Your desk and screen are in place, but whereabouts on the desk is the screen? Realistically, it needs to be at eye level, meaning you can look at the screen without needing to bend your neck or hunch over. This is crucial for your posture, and it will make working from home so much easier. If the screen is too low down, you should buy things to prop it up. There are plenty of little desk shelves or screen raisers you can buy online to do just that. With your screen at the right level, you can sit with a tall and straight spine, reducing the chances of postural issues.
Put all three of these things together to create the ultimate home office setup! For inspiration and ideas on items you. By focusing on where to put your screen, you inadvertently work out how to organise the rest of the setup. Now, you’re ready to start working and be as productive as can be.
If there is one thing I could change about 2020 it would be to rewind to better times so I got my yearly girlie trip to Ireland in with my mums on the run girlie group.
As a rule we meet up once a month for good food, good fun and a good old moan about the husband and kids. Everyone does this right?!
Once a year we treat ourselves to a long weekend getaway usually some where like wales, Ireland or we have even been known to have a cheeky trip to Ibiza. Our all time favourite location to return to is Ireland though.
There is something about the city that just makes us giddy like little girls again, I don’t know if it’s the Guinness the girls or the good time guys we always meet out there.
We always make it our mission to find a new restaurant or experience to try while we are there something to get the taste buds excited after a day in the Guinness and cocktails lol.
So for our fellow mummy readers who fancy a trip or anyone else who is thinking of discovering Ireland here are some fab eating options we recommend.
If you want a fine dining experience and love the luxury of a nice meal and lovely surrounds this is the place for you.
This second floor hotel restaurant looks out over St Stephen’s Green and is named in honour of the city’s glove-makers who once occupied the neighbouring alleyway. Pinks, greens and floral arrangements give the room a soft touch, while dishes display contrastingly bold flavours and textures.
If you love sea food you won’t be disappointed, this place has the best around. As fresh as it comes with beautiful presentation.
Staff are super accommodating and friendly and you really do get the full sole experience.
Briar Rose Bar and Grill
If you like the more private dining experience why not try the Briar Rose bar and grill perfect for formal or informal gathering with friends and family and a menu choice to suit all. From burgers, salads, curries and even buffets and finger foods you really can please the whole family with this one venue.
Does anyone else plan a trip or day out around the food they want to eat or restaurants they want to visit? I’m a real foodie weather it be from a burger van or a find dining restaurant, I blooming love food.
Have any of you started planning your next adventure with your mum crew? Your college mates or your one true friend?
I love my family with all my heart but we all need our own time and space and mine is best spent with the girls eating good food, drinking more cocktails then my body can handle and acting the class clown because if my friends aren’t belly giggling at the end of the night I feel I haven’t done my job.
Shopping pre-loved isn’t just about saving money, although that’s often a nice benefit. It’s also about sustainability and often about getting something unique or at least unusual. There are lots of good reasons to buy pre-loved as much as you can. Here are some tips to help you grab the best bargains and make the most of your money.
If you go into a supermarket without a shopping list, you can quickly end up with a trolley full of impulse purchases. The same applies if you go hunting for pre-loved items without a clear idea of what it is you actually want.
Staying focused on your goal can also help guide you to the right place to find it. For example, general second-hand stores can be a lot of fun. If, however, you have a clear aim in mind, you’re probably better, or at least quicker, going to a more specialist outlet.
Research your sellers
When you’re buying pre-loved there are essentially three ways you can shop. These are:
Directly from a private seller
From a private seller on a sales platform
From a business seller
As a rule of thumb, if you’re making a significant purchase, you generally want to buy from a business. This gives you full consumer protection. For really significant purchases, ideally, you want to buy from a seller who goes over and above legal minimums.
You can often find these sellers if you’re smart about your search queries. For example, instead of searching on just “Bentley Used” try “Bentley Approved Used”. Then do some more digging into the seller’s background. In particular, look at how long they’ve been trading and what kind of reputation they have.
For lower-cost items, it can be fine to buy directly from a private seller. Just make sure that you check the item thoroughly before you part with any money, especially if you’re paying cash (or bank transfer). Remember, with person-to-person pre-loved sales, the rule is “let the buyer beware”.
Sales platforms are a bit of a middle ground. You do get some consumer protection, but it’s still advisable to be on the cautious side. In simple terms, the more you’re paying, the more you should pay attention to seller feedback.
Possibly the single, biggest difference between buying pre-loved and buying new is that you have to work with what there is. In other words, you can’t just decide what you need and hunt around the internet to see who has it in stock. You may have to wait a long time before the perfect item becomes available and when it does you’d better be ready to move quickly.
Know what you really want
You can make your life a lot easier if you’re clear about what’s a must-have and what’s a nice-to-have. For example, your ideal purchase might be a cognac leather desk chair. You might, however, be quite happy with a leather desk chair in another colour.
Similarly, decide whether or not you want a pre-loved purchase you can use straight away or whether you’re prepared to allow time and money for repairs. There’s no “right or wrong” about this. In fact, you might even come to different conclusions for different purchases.

The Dirtiest Things in Your House (And How to Clean Them)
Are you a neat freak like I am? I’m not a fan of cleaning, by any means. But, I take pride in keeping a clean and safe home for my family.
So, I was shocked to learn that some of the dirtiest things in my home were objects that I’d never expected. I was living with millions of bacteria colonies and even putting them all over my body and face without realizing it. EWWW!
I decided that these hidden germ hives had to go. I replaced most of my home’s dirtiest objects with cleaner alternatives. Or,I updated my cleaning regimen to make sure they never got filthy again.
Now, I’m bringing my hard-learned lessons to you. In this post, I’ll let you in on the grimiest secrets in your home. The following are the dirtiest objects (as defined by studies), and how to either replace them or clean them better.
Did you expect that your towels were the dirtiest things in your entire home? I sure didn’t. But it’s true. A study reported by The Daily Mail found that towels are dirtier than doorknobs, sinks and even toilet seats.
How do towels get so dirty?
Towels live in your bathroom, so they are surrounded by bacteria that comes from your body and the toilet. Not only that, but they’re usually a bit damp, and they stay in the dark all day. You couldn’t find a better place for germs to grow. And they do grow. A LOT.
The average towel contains hundreds of times more bacteria than a toilet seat. It’s also home to mould, fungus, mites and more. Towels can even carry and transmit viruses like COVID-19 with ease.
When I discovered all of this, I knew it was time for a change. So, I tossed out our towels and replaced them with Soji Towels. Soji are antimicrobial towels, which means they are 99.99% immune to all germs. Soji self-clean and remain sterile for life.
Soji are woven with real silver, which is an antimicrobial element. That means germs cannot survive or replicate on Soji. This effect can never wash or fade away. It lasts for the life of the towel.
Not only does that guarantee a clean towel after every shower, but it also guarantees an end to towel odours (those musty odours are caused by bacteria and mould growth).
One of the reasons we chose Soji over other towels is because they’re oversized and super soft. Soji are made with bamboo, a type of fibre that is softer and finer than cotton. They are woven with a special Japanese open-air weave that allows air to flow through the towel. This gives Soji a fluffy, plush feel. And, it helps Soji to dry 3x faster than other towels.
No more germs. No more odours. And no more damp towels!
We know you saw this one coming. It’s no surprise that the toilet, and the area around it, is one of the dirtiest places in your home.
What might surprise you is just how easy it is to prevent germs from spreading in this area. It doesn’t take a single cleaning product or a moment of work to cut germs in the toilet by up to 50%.
All you have to do is PUT THE LID DOWN before you flush!
When you flush the toilet, the whirlpool that sucks the water down is followed by a burst of air that expells a “plume” of bacteria out of the toilet. This bacteria dusts everything in your bathroom and can linger in the air for up to 30 minutes.
This is how faecal matter and other nasty things can spread to your towels, toothbrushes, makeup, and pretty much everything else in your bathroom or toilet.
If you put the lid down, you’ll have a cleaner bathroom all the time, and you’ll need to scrub a little less often.
3. The kitchen sink
Your kitchen sink is home to soap and sponges, so how could it be so dirty? You might wash a lot of dishes in the sink, but how often do you wash the sink itself?
Those food bits in the bottom can become powerful bacteria colonies, especially if they contact raw meat, eggs and milk. Your sink can also get dirty during food prep. How often do you touch the sink handles after touching raw meat or wiping off dirty plates?
This bacteria can build up, and resilient strains like salmonella and e.Coli can survive and cause illness.
Many kitchen sinks are made of stainless steel, which is semi-effective at repelling germs. But, if you really want a clean sink, switch to copper. Copper, like the silver found in Soji Towels, is naturally antimicrobial. It will keep all germs out of your sink and off of your handles.
However, buying a new sink is a big change. If you’re not ready yet, just remember to clean the interior and exterior of your sink with a disinfectant every day. And, don’t let food sit in the drain for more than a few hours.
4. Kids’ toys
How often do you clean your kids’ toys? Probably never. Most of them contain electronic parts these days, so you can’t exactly toss them in the dishwasher.
No matter how high tech those toys are, kids will still put them in their mouths, let the dog chew them, take them outside, and drool all over them in their sleep. Germs can very easily crawl into cracks between buttons and action figure appendages and begin to spread.
Kids also like to share their toys with others. This makes them one of the easiest spreaders of disease, such as the flu, which can survive on toys for up to 48 hours, according to the CDC.
It’s a good idea to give your kids’ favourite toys a good wash every few weeks. If the toys are electronic, you can wipe them down with phone-friendly disinfectant wipes. It only takes a few seconds to do.
If they’re not electronic, you can put them in a basin of water and soak them. Or, you can clean them with an ultrasonic wand to blast the debris from all those cracks and hinges.
Clean, Safe… and Easy
It doesn’t take a ton of scrubbing to de-germ the dirtiest things in your house. All it takes is a few upgrades and a little outside-the-box thinking.
The biggest germ factories in your home are your sink and toilet. You can limit their spreading potential simply by putting down the toilet lid and showing your sink a little TLC. Though, getting a copper sink is the best option, if you can afford it.
The most germ-friendly environment in your home is found on your towels. These bacteria-spreaders can be easily replaced by antimicrobial Soji Towels. Now, you can get a set of Soji for 50% off the retail price, making them about the same price as a set of regular towels. If it’s been a while since you got new towels, you’re probably due for an upgrade anyway!

Whether you are doing up a house from scratch or simply redecorating, kitchen flooring is crucial. It may not be the first thing you think of – or the most exciting to consider – but flooring is essential. You’ll use it every day, and it will affect the whole atmosphere of your kitchen.
When considering flooring, there are a few factors to think about. Cleanliness, colour and practicality are just a few to start your thinking. Each option will come with its advantages and disadvantages.
Tile is probably the most popular kitchen flooring. It is durable and long-lasting. Plus it’s perfect for wetter areas like the kitchen. If you get water on the floor when washing up, it’s not going to be a problem.
Plus, if there are any cooking-related spillages or accidents, it will be so easy to clean up compared to something like carpet.
The quality of your tiled floor will depend on the installation, grouting and sealing. It’s essential to turn to proper materials companies like Fosroc when tiling your floor to make sure you get the most out of it.
This flooring has become more prevalent in recent years. It’s originator, the vinyl flooring from a generation ago, was not the prettiest sight. However, as technology has changed, so has vinyl flooring adapted.
Vinyl is waterproof – perfect for accidents and spillages – and is much softer than tiled flooring. Even though it’s more comfortable on the feet, it’s still durable and tough.
Plus, vinyl can come in a variety of appearances. If you want a tiled look or a wood look, vinyl offers these options.
The most durable of all kitchen flooring, stained concrete will last you a lifetime. It may not sound like the most beautiful of floorings, but you can make it to fit your interior decor perfectly with the staining. It can be stained to look like wood, tiles or stone.
Stained concrete is one of the cheapest options available to you, so if you are looking to decorate on a budget, this option comes highly recommended.
Trends for 2021
No matter the type of flooring you choose for your kitchen, some trends affect all options.
For 2021, lighter flooring is in style. So, if you’re looking to pick a type of tile, style of vinyl or colour of concrete stain, looking for the lighter colours is the stylish way forward.
On top of this, more asymmetric patterns are in. Taking tiles of different sizes to make a mismatched style is a big trend at the minute. Even positioning them so your tiles run diagonally would be approved by the style gods of 2021.
In vinyl, it’s becoming popular to pick patterns for the finish of your flooring. For example, chevron and herringbone are starting to look good in many people’s kitchens.
Whatever flooring you go for, remember to consider practicality as well as style.
Just around the corner is the time of year that some people love and some people loathe, Valentines Day.
Myself, I’ll take it or leave it. We have never celebrated a such and have been together nearly 15 years but I do however refuse to cook on the night lol.
The point of this post is to say that you don’t have to be loved up to the person of your dreams or spoiled just on one day of the year, every day is a day to be celebrated whether it’s a birthday, anniversary, a congratulations gift or a cheer you up gift.
For a gift that covers a wide range of occasions I think you can’t go wrong with a diamond! Male or female your bound to raise a smile with a bit of bling.
What’s your go to jewellery of choice? Mine is earrings and rings, I’m not a massive necklace or bracelet wearer.
For my birthday this year I am going to choose something like these beautiful stud earrings if my hubby asks me for some ideas.
Studs are a timeless classic for me and being a mum a lot more safer than a dangler for the baby to pull!
I also have a super special friends 30th birthday this year and I think a diamond is a super special keep sake gift to last a lifetime for the likes of a special birthday.
She does love a necklace or bracelet and particularly rose gold like most ladies right now so I am looking at purchasing something like this gorgeous necklace
I think this is one of those pieces that you would wear in a night out but is timeless that it could be passed down to her daughter in years to come.
Diamonds really are for any occasion
Don’t think you will never get one unless you are loved up to a partner, friends or relatives may treat you too you know.
Here’s a cute poem about diamonds to hopefully make you smile.
It’s the Little Things
It’s the little things
The little things that make you smile
the small sparkles of joy
that cluster and dot your day
Like little diamonds of wonder
Glittering light through the darkness
Collect the little things
Cherish them for the rare treasures they
are Adorn yourself with them
see them shimmer and shine
a twinkling crown of stars
bathing you in their light
Feel them seep into your skin and warm
your soul Be a vessel, Let joys tranquil light illuminate
you replenish and imbue you
as it brims and surges out of you
in a gust of laughter and a dazzling smile
Share your joy with others
Be a beacon of gentle light
that refracts off their little things
and shows them the way
Teach them as you have learned
To be happy every day.
If you have a little extra cash and someone that needs cheering up in these uncertain times why not send them a surprise gift and make their day or even year! I for one would be a very happy lady.
