From the moment you step into your new place it can feel as if you have finally started a new chapter in your life. You are no longer living with your parents and depending on other people for things in your life, you are completely independent and ready to be a proper adult. Here are some of the things you may not have thought about sorting out in the first week or so of having your first home.

Arranging your furniture

When you move into a house it can be tempting to use drop and leave it there approach, but if you don’t try to plan out where everything is going at least a little bit it can end up liking messy and you won’t be able to make the most of the space you have. Is the first few days of living in your new home to she’s out where your sofa, chairs, TV and bed should go and then you can arrange everything else around that for maximum usage and the best look.

Getting your broadband

Broadband is one of the first things you will want to arrange for in your new home because this is the only way you will be able to use WIFi on your laptop or desktop computer. Check out the differences between dsl internet vs fiber too. Sure, you might have some connection on your phone. It this can’t sustain you for long and eventually, you will want to get yourself proper internet connection. You can shop for everything online and take a look at different deals to find what suits you best, and someone will come to the house and fit a cable outside to connect you up.

Energy and water

Energy and water are those things that are pretty boring to arrange but they are essential if you want to have a fully functioning home. Make sure when you are looking for your energy providers and your water provider that you take a lot of time to research the different deals and companies. There will always be a few which offer special prices for new customers and you can take advantage of this during your first year or so and save yourself some needed cash for the house.

Kitchen essentials

The kitchen is that one room in the house which will take a long time to complete and you might even be buying kissing utensils for the space over a year after moving in. When you first step foot in a kitchen you will need to furnish it, and apart from the obvious big appliances, there are a lot of equipment you need to consider too:

Pans

Pots

Plates

Bowls

Cutlery

Jug

Measuring spoons

Cheese grater

Utensils (tongs, fish slice, spatula…)

The list can go on forever, so make sure you take a trip to your local store and grab as much stuff as you can. A good tip would be to wait for September time because a lot of supermarket hold deals on home stuff for university students so you can save a pretty penny.
